Atheism is not what we are specifically speaking about. The main point we are trying to make is that not every belief can be correct. One or none may hold the truth. On the other hand, certain beliefs may be correct or even a combination of beliefs could hold the truth.

Touching on your other thought, if their is not a God there would be no point in living. I would have to strongly disagree. In fact, if we knew there was no God it would change the way many people live. It would give a definitive beginning and end to our lives. We would know that we had a finite time to live our lives. I bet more people would live it up and not waste a second and more people would do what they wanted with their lives instead of doing what they must.

Science is trying to make sense of these things, as is, all the religion's of the world. One thing we can agree on is that it all came from somewhere and in some way everything organized it self to give us the world we know today.

What if atheism is wrong? If Christians are wrong, than that is the end of it. There is no afterlife. The argument is done. However, in atheism, if they are wrong, it bounds trouble. Their afterlife may not be perfect. This is not a reason to believe, but it should make you think; without God, there is no sense to living.

95% of mankind believe in a higher being.

The world is too perfect and absolute for it to come from chaos. Scientist should know that better than anyone.

That's not much of an argument. It seems you are blindly accepting this fact and have faith without knowledge. The question I have for you is, "What about the other religions of the world? Are they wrong if your's belief's are the only correct ones?"

So what your saying is that global warming was going on already and we accelerated the process? Did you know that the earth goes through cycles like ice ages naturally? If you agree with global warming isn't it possible that we can artificially create global warming with our actions? Could we be creating a warming earth before the earth is ready to start it's own cycle?

What if you had facts or proof that showed the real truth? Do you not think that we as humans can find an answer or have the ability to understand what we may find?

I believe there is probably a creator, things are too perfect to be an accident. As far as the Bible and other religious documents, man wrote them. Any one or thing capable of creating the universe is beyond our comprehension. Listening to someone that claims to have the answers, religious our scientific, seems like pure lunacy.

Thanks for the thoughts. Thoughts That Make You Think started out in early 2009 as a site that discussed concepts and ideas that had no clear cut answers. It was a general site that people could come to and discuss these topics. We had a bunch of followers and tons of posts. Problem was that we were too general. Myself and a few others talked and personal interests and research brought the site to it's current state.

There is much information to share and we have been planning the site design and topics for awhile. Many others that have shown interest in this quest/research do not have the time, interest, or dedication to share and explain these topics, but I feel there needs to be a place that anyone can visit and understand the facts and concepts.

So here it is... stay tuned... working on many topics and many ideas. Currently researching the newer idea that there is a field that connects everything and actions of one effect the whole field. It's like dark matter, but much more complicated... Of course we are trying to simplify for everyone's enjoyment!

Pretty controversial stuff. It takes guts to write about the Bible like that. It's exactly the kind of thing I write about from time to time.

Personally, I think it a little naive to take the Bible literally. It was written long after the deaths of everyone involved, by men and during a time when many thought the Earth was flat and burned witches. I'm not anti-religion, I just try to have a little common sense and put things into perspective.

I believe in God, I just believe he/it is far beyond my comprehension. I'm ok with that; I don't need organized religion for that. Things are far too perfect, in my mind, for everything to be a freak accident. To each his own, I respect those with different beliefs.

BTW, you have no pagerank or Alexa. Is it a brand new blog? Writing a few posts on my blog could help you at least get indexed by Google and get a few comments. Just a thought, no pressure, just an invite because I like your writing. Feel free to delete this paragraph, I won’t mind.

Firstly, I never said that science can't prove anything. I said it's rare. Many beliefs in religion cannot be proven wrong; the presence of a higher power, for example. You cannot prove a negative so people will, in all likelihood, continue believing in a higher power (or multiple higher powers) despite all of the evidence compiled by science. I agree that science has disproven many religious beliefs but some beliefs are undisprovable (though I'm betting science could prove that "undisprovable" isn't a word) and, therefore, science will never completely disprove all religious beliefs. Thus, the question posed in the original post of this thread is irrelevant.

I understand your point, but to say science can not ever prove anything is just plain wrong. I feel you are stating this out of opinion and not fact? No one is saying that if you can not see somthing it does not exist. Both religion and science will back up this statement.

Science has proven religion or religions wrong many times. Look back at all the beliefs that are now proven incorrect; the earth is the center of the universe, the earth is flat, and so on. Some ideas have not originated from religion, but the fact remains that science has proven many beliefs wrong.

... You have proven my point... Over time certain religions if not all may become extinct, but we as humans will create or find new ones and beliefs to replace old ways. This has occured many times in the past with such beliefs like Greek and Roman gods and with other ancient beliefs.

Time moves slow in religion and science, but belief in a higher power will be something constant as many humans need this faith to live with purpose and without fear of the unknown.

Science has proven religion or religions wrong many times. Look back at all the beliefs that are now proven incorrect; the earth is the center of the universe, the earth is flat, and so on. Some ideas have not originated from religion, but the fact remains that science has proven many beliefs wrong.

… You have proven my point… Over time certain religions if not all may become extinct, but we as humans will create or find new ones and beliefs to replace old ways. This has occured many times in the past with such beliefs like Greek and Roman gods and with other ancient beliefs.

Time moves slow in religion and science, but belief in a higher power will be something constant as many humans need this faith to live with purpose and without fear of the unknown.

I think i see what you're trying to say and I understand that you're speaking hypothetically, but isn't it more worthwhile to speak hypothetically about something that, hypothetically, could come to be? Your post alludes to science being able to prove that God doesn't exist.

The key word here is prove.

It is extremely rare that science can prove anything. Name a scientific theory and I'll guarantee there are some skeptics. Very little has been proven.

Also, it's illogical to believe that you could ever prove something doesn't exist. You can't prove a negative. That's one of the few things that has been proven.

So your question is, forgive me, irrelevant. It will never happen. People will continue believing in God in spite of all the scientific evidence to the contrary. It happens every day. It's my belief that it will continue to happen.

As for why people believe in God, even though that belief may fly boldly in the face of all the scientific evidence, we can only speculate. I think you touched on one big reason: comfort in the face of the unknown. Anyone who has attended a funeral probably knows that feeling.
