Who Decided What You Can And Can Not Do At Your Wedding?

Weddings are about celebrating two individuals and their connection and love for each other?

  • When was it decided that you had to invite everyone you know?
  • When did businesses in the wedding industry decide that over charging was the standard?
  • Who decided that you cannot ask for $$$ when that’s what most getting married need?
  • Why is the proposal and honeymoon so important?

I am getting married this July.

As I started planning the wedding at first I kept saying I am planning a private party for my business.  When I could no longer get away without mentioning the wedding I realized things started becoming more expensive.

Also, I wanted to have a small “immediate” family only wedding.  To me that means relatives that I actually “talk” to!  Who says I have to invite people that I really don’t even know?

If I already live with my fiance’ and we have everything we need why do I have to register?  Why can’t I say…”We are not registered, but if you would like to give us something you may give us AMEX gift cards.” Wouldn’t you want to say the same thing?

Why is the one question everyone asks me is “What are you doing for your honeymoon?” My answer:  “We are not taking one. I am taking a week off for the wedding to share and spend time with my and my fiance’s family!”

I just don’t get the big deal, the big cost, and why marriage has no longer become a celebration between to individuals and the coming together of their families?

What do you think?
